MOLE CHECKS & SKIN CANCER SCREENING

What a mole check involves

Dr Bhatti, our skin cancer lead, carries out a full dermoscopic examination, analysing structural detail no self-check can.

Where a mole needs closer monitoring or removal, this happens under the same clinician: assessment, biopsy and treatment in one pathway, with all samples sent for histological analysis to confirm the diagnosis. We leave nothing to chance.

Personal or family history of melanoma or other skin cancers

Fair skin, red or blonde hair, or a history of sunburn

A mole that itches, bleeds, or will not heal

A high number of moles, or moles that are hard to keep track of

A mole that has changed in size, shape, colour, or texture

A new mole appearing at any time

GENETIC CANCER SCREENING

Do you have a family history of Melanoma?

For patients with a family history of melanoma, our Genetic Cancer Risk screening also covers inherited skin cancer risk genes as part of its 31-gene panel - worth discussing alongside your mole check.

EVERYTHING ANSWERED

Commonly Asked Questions

  • How much does a private mole check cost in Leeds?

A new dermatology consultation, including examination of any moles of concern, costs £250.  If removal or biopsy is required, this is arranged as a separate procedure and discussed with you in advance.

  • How often should I get my moles checked?

This depends on your personal risk factors. Most people benefit from an annual check; those with a family history of melanoma, a high number of moles, or previous skin cancer are often advised to have more frequent reviews, which Dr Bhatti will discuss with you at your consultation.

  • Does a mole check hurt?

No. Dermoscopy is entirely non-invasive — a handheld, illuminated magnifier is used to examine the skin's surface. If a biopsy or removal is recommended, this is carried out under local anaesthetic.

  • What happens if a mole looks suspicious?

Dr Bhatti will discuss the finding with you directly and arrange the appropriate next step — typically biopsy or removal with histopathological confirmation — under the same clinic visit or a prompt follow-up, without a referral wait.

  • Do you treat conditions other than moles and skin cancer?

Yes. The clinic also manages acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, hyperpigmentation, and hair and scalp disorders.
