EVERYTHING ANSWERED
Commonly Asked Questions
Are you registered for official and embassy documentation?
Yes — The Private Doctors are FCDO registered (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office). This means our medicals and certified documentation are recognised for official purposes, including visa applications and documents destined for overseas authorities — reducing the risk of a submission being rejected on a technicality.
How quickly can I get a medical and my certificate?
Same-day and next-day appointments are typically available, with blood tests taken in-house at your visit and chest X-rays arranged same-day through our partner clinics. Your certificate is issued once all results are returned — we'll give you a clear timeframe at your appointment based on the tests your form requires. Where documents need to reach an embassy, insurer, or employer urgently, couriering can be arranged.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring the exact forms or requirements issued by the requesting body (embassy checklist, employer's medical form, licensing body paperwork), photo ID, and — importantly — a patient summary from your GP along with any medical information of note from your past, such as previous diagnoses, operations, or investigation results. This lets your doctor complete your medical accurately and without delays chasing records. Also bring a list of current medications, and glasses or contact lenses if you use them. If you tell us who the medical is for when booking, we'll confirm anything specific you need before you arrive.
Can everything be done in one day — bloods and chest X-ray?
The investigations, yes, in most cases. Blood tests are taken in-house at your appointment, and where your form requires a chest X-ray we arrange same-day imaging through our trusted partner clinics — so examination, tests, and imaging are typically completed without a second visit. Your certificate then follows once all results are returned from the laboratory and imaging centre.
Do you arrange chest X-rays and TB screening for visa medicals?
Yes. Where your visa requirements include chest X-ray or TB screening, we arrange this through trusted partner imaging centres and incorporate the results into your certified documentation.
Can you get my full medical history from my NHS GP?
Yes, with your consent. We can liaise directly with your NHS GP to obtain your full medical history, ensuring your records are complete, accurate, and ready for submission — one less thing for you to chase.
Do you deal with the embassy or insurer directly?
Where needed, yes. We can liaise directly with embassies, insurers, or legal representatives on your behalf, and certified documentation can be couriered the same day.
Do you do motorsport licence medicals?
Yes. Motorsport medicals in line with FIA, FIM, and other bodies are held at our Roundhay clinic, or by private visit by arrangement — covering vision, coordination, heart health, and mobility, with certification completed so you stay focused on performance.
How much does a medical cost?
Every medical is one all-inclusive price — covering your full medical history, examination, notes review, all investigations, and completion of your forms — so there are never extras added on the day. The price depends on what your specific certification requires: contact us with the details of who the medical is for and we'll confirm your all-inclusive price upfront. Itemised receipts are provided so you can claim the cost back from your employer or insurance company where eligible.
Certification done right, first time.
Tell us who your medical is for - we'll confirm exactly what's needed, quote the full cost upfront, and handle every formality from examination to courier.
