As a CEO in a fast-paced, time-demanding industry, I’ve tried several health screening services, but The Private Doctors in Leeds stand out.

They offered a far deeper level of insight, with privacy, comfort, and genuine understanding at the core. What really impressed me was the aftercare; once my health was assessed, they supported me with a clear, ongoing programme.

What an absolutely amazing practice. Dr Raj was so compassionate and listened to my wife’s worry’s. She had her bloods tested and received the results rapidly and efficiently, which has really helped her understand what is going on with her health. I recommend this service highly and will be advising my own clients to use it. Fantastic!

EVERYTHING ANSWERED

Commonly Asked Questions

  • Do I need a health assessment if I feel healthy?

Many of the conditions our assessments are designed to detect — including early heart disease and certain cancers — develop silently and produce no symptoms in their earliest, most treatable stages. Feeling well is not the same as knowing you are well. A comprehensive assessment is intended precisely for those who feel healthy: it provides objective reassurance, establishes a clear baseline for the years ahead, and identifies risk early enough to do something meaningful about it. Prevention, not reaction, is the principle our assessments are built on.

  • How is this different from my GP's annual health check?

A standard health check is typically brief and limited in scope — a set of core measurements and basic bloods, often without specialist input or meaningful follow-up.

Our assessments are considerably more comprehensive and are led by a private doctor throughout, from your initial consultation to the interpretation of your results.

Depending on the tier, they include advanced blood analysis, cardiac markers, multi-cancer screening and consultant specialist review, followed by a written report, a personalised plan and aftercare to ensure every finding is properly managed.

The distinction is one of depth, continuity and the seniority of the clinicians involved.

  • How often should I have a health assessment?

For most people, an assessment every one to two years is appropriate, with annual assessments recommended for those over a certain age or with a family history or risk factors that warrant closer monitoring. The right interval depends on your individual health, and your doctor will advise on the most suitable schedule as part of your results consultation. Regular assessment allows subtle changes to be identified and acted upon early, rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.

  • What if results show something concerning?

We never surprise you. Your consultant discusses all findings in detail during your follow-up consultation. If something is identified, you'll have clear options: monitor, make lifestyle changes, begin treatment, or specialist referral. We provide a clear plan and ongoing support.

  • Is the assessment covered by private insurance?

Most private health insurance policies cover comprehensive health assessments. Coverage varies by policy. Before you book, we'll check your coverage at no cost. Email your policy details, and we'll confirm what's covered within 24 hours.

  • How long does this take?

Your assessment day involves an initial consultation of around 45 to 60 minutes followed by comprehensive testing, typically taking around 90 minutes depending on the tier. Preliminary results are usually available within 48 hours, with fuller analysis following shortly after depending on the tests involved. You then attend a dedicated results consultation, in person or virtually, where your doctor explains every finding and sets out your personalised plan. We deliberately build in the time to do this properly — nothing is rushed, and no result is left unexplained.

  • What cancers can a private health assessment screen for?

Our Advanced and Executive assessments include TruCheck, a blood-based multi-cancer screening test that can detect signals associated with over 70 solid-organ cancers, including many that have no routine screening programme and produce no early symptoms.

For those who want an additional layer of imaging, an optional full body MRI can be added — a detailed, radiation-free scan that examines the body's organs and structures and can identify abnormalities warranting further investigation. Every result is interpreted by your doctor in the context of your wider health. No single test is a guarantee, but together these offer one of the most comprehensive approaches to early detection available.

  • Can I add a full body MRI or CT Calcium score to my assessment?

Yes. A full body MRI and a CT Calcium score are available as optional additions to any assessment, allowing you to extend your screening where it is clinically valuable to you.

A full body MRI provides detailed imaging across the body without radiation, while a CT Calcium score measures calcified plaque in the coronary arteries to give a precise picture of your heart disease risk.

Your doctor will advise whether either is worthwhile for you based on your age, history and the findings of your assessment, so you invest only in the testing that adds genuine value.

  • What results timeline should I expect?

Most tests are back within 48 hours. Your full written report and specialist consultation are scheduled around day 12. If you need preliminary results sooner, you can request a phone consultation after 48 hours at no extra cost.

  • Are health assessments tax-efficient for our business?

    Yes.

Employer-funded health screening and medical check-ups qualify for a specific exemption under Section 320B of the Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003, meaning that when your organisation provides a health assessment for an employee, the cost does not give rise to a taxable benefit-in-kind.

Your employees receive a comprehensive assessment without a personal tax charge, and the business meets the cost efficiently.

The exemption covers one health-screening assessment and one medical check-up per employee per tax year.

Full details are set out in HMRC's guidance at EIM21765. As treatment depends on your organisation's wider arrangements, we would always recommend confirming the position with your accountant or tax adviser.
