  • Does the consultation fee include prescriptions and referral letters?

    Yes.

All consultation fees at The Private Doctors include any prescriptions and referral letters required as part of that consultation. If a prescription or letter is requested outside of a consultation — for example, as a standalone administrative request — a separate administrative charge will apply. The fee for any additional documentation will be confirmed at the time of request.

  • What counts as a follow up GP consultation and when does the follow-up rate apply?

A follow-up consultation is a review of symptoms or concerns that were previously assessed by The Private Doctors within the past two months. Follow-up consultations are charged at £80. If you are presenting with a new o unrelated concern, or if more than two months have passed since your last appointment, the standard new consultation rate of £120 applies. The same rates apply whether your appointment is face to face, by telephone, or by video.

  • Can I claim my private GP fees back from my health insurer?

The Private Doctors are a self-pay practice and do not bill insurers directly. You pay at the time of booking or prior to your appointment, and a detailed itemised receipt is provided which you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement. Whether your insurer covers private GP consultations, specialist appointments, or investigations depends on the terms of your individual policy — we recommend checking with your insurer before your appointment to understand what is covered and what documentation they require for a claim.

  • Is there a fee for a GP letter or medical report?

Medical reports and letters requested outside of a consultation are charged separately. The fee depends on the nature and complexity of the report required — for example, a straightforward GP letter differs in scope from a detailed medico-legal or insurance report. Fees are confirmed at the time of request. Letters and referrals produced as part of a consultation are included in the consultation fee at no additional charge.

  • What happens after a referral — do you refer to NHS or private specialists?

Where a referral is clinically indicated, The Private Doctors refer to private specialists within a trusted network of leading consultants across multiple disciplines. If NHS secondary care is more appropriate for your situation, your doctor can provide a detailed letter to your NHS GP, who can then refer you into the relevant NHS service. Your doctor will discuss the most appropriate pathway for your situation at your consultation. Referral letters produced as part of a consultation are included in the consultation fee.

  • Do you offer payment plans for health assessments?

Health assessments are secured with a deposit at the time of booking, with the remaining balance due no later than 24 hours before your appointment. Full payment may be required at the time of booking for some assessment types. If you have a specific query about payment arrangements for an assessment, please contact the team directly on 0113 388 6399 or email admin@theprivatedoctors.co.uk to discuss your options before booking.

  • What is the cancellation fee if I cancel within 24 hours?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. Patients who do not attend without giving any notice will be charged the full appointment fee. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please call 0113 388 6399 or email admin@theprivatedoctors.co.uk as early as possible.

  • Are blood tests charged separately from the consultation fee?

    Yes.

Blood tests are charged separately from the consultation fee and start from £80 depending on the panel required. If your doctor recommends blood tests during your consultation, the cost will be discussed and agreed before any samples are taken. Blood tests can also be booked as a standalone appointment without a GP consultation where appropriate. A full breakdown of blood test pricing is available by contacting the clinic directly.

  • When do I pay — at booking, before my appointment, or on the day?

For Private GP consultations, specialist consultations, and home visits, payment is required in full at the time of booking. A valid payment method must be held on file before your appointment is confirmed. For health assessments, a deposit is taken at the time of booking to secure your date, with the remaining balance due no later than 24 hours before your appointment. All major credit and debit cards are accepted.
